Executive Summary

This vulnerability is an incorrect access control issue in the remoteCloudUpdateCheck function of TOTOLINK T6 firmware version 4.1.5cu.748_B20211015. It allows unauthenticated attackers to restart the cloud update check workflow by sending a specially crafted MQTT message to the cs_broker component.

Impact Analysis

An attacker could exploit this to trigger unnecessary cloud update checks, potentially causing network disruption or exposing sensitive information during the update process. It may also allow attackers to manipulate update behavior for further exploitation.

Compliance Impact

This vulnerability allows unauthenticated attackers to manipulate the cloud update check workflow via crafted MQTT messages, which could lead to unauthorized access or control of the device. This may violate compliance requirements under GDPR (data protection) and HIPAA (healthcare data security) by enabling unauthorized access to sensitive data or systems.

Mitigation Strategies

Disable the cloud update check feature in TOTOLINK T6 firmware or block MQTT messages to the cs_broker component at the network level until a patch is available.
