Executive Summary

This vulnerability involves IBM QRadar 7.5.0 through 7.5.0 UP15 Interim Fix 005 containing hard-coded credentials. These credentials, such as passwords or cryptographic keys, are embedded in the software and used for inbound authentication, outbound communication with external components, or encrypting internal data.

Detection Guidance

Detection of hard-coded credentials in IBM QRadar requires manual review of configuration files and system logs. Check for default or embedded passwords in scripts, configuration files, or database entries. Review network traffic for unusual outbound connections using tools like tcpdump or Wireshark. Inspect system processes for unexpected authentication attempts or encrypted communications.

Impact Analysis

An attacker could exploit hard-coded credentials to gain unauthorized access to the system, intercept communications, or decrypt sensitive internal data. This could lead to data breaches, unauthorized system control, or compromise of QRadar's functionality.

Compliance Impact

This vulnerability may violate compliance requirements such as GDPR or HIPAA, which mandate strong data protection and access controls. Hard-coded credentials could lead to unauthorized data access, breaching confidentiality and integrity requirements.

Mitigation Strategies

Immediately update IBM QRadar to version 7.5.0 UP15 IF06 or later, as this vulnerability is resolved in that release. IBM strongly advises against using workarounds due to the risk of hard-coded credentials. After updating, verify all credentials are changed from default values and monitor for unauthorized access.
