Executive Summary

This vulnerability is a heap buffer overflow in the ihevcd_get_tu_data_size function of ihevcd_utils.c. It allows a local attacker to write outside the intended memory area, potentially leading to privilege escalation without needing extra permissions or user interaction.

Impact Analysis

An attacker could exploit this to gain higher privileges on your system, allowing them to perform unauthorized actions. Since no user interaction is required, the risk is elevated as exploitation could occur silently in the background.

Mitigation Strategies

Apply the latest security patches from the vendor immediately. Disable or restrict access to vulnerable components if patches are unavailable. Monitor vendor advisories for updates and follow their recommended mitigation steps.
