Exploitability

CWE ID Description
CWE-416 The product reuses or references memory after it has been freed. At some point afterward, the memory may be allocated again and saved in another pointer, while the original pointer references a location somewhere within the new allocation. Any operations using the original pointer are no longer valid because the memory "belongs" to the code that operates on the new pointer.
CWE-362 The product contains a concurrent code sequence that requires temporary, exclusive access to a shared resource, but a timing window exists in which the shared resource can be modified by another code sequence operating concurrently.

Executive Summary

This vulnerability involves a race condition that may cause a use-after-free issue in multiple locations. This occurs when a program continues to use memory after it has been freed, potentially leading to memory corruption. Exploitation requires system execution privileges and could allow local privilege escalation.

Impact Analysis

If exploited, this vulnerability could allow an attacker with local access to gain elevated privileges on the system. This might enable them to perform unauthorized actions, install malware, or access sensitive data, depending on the system's configuration and the attacker's goals.

Compliance Impact

This vulnerability involves a use-after-free due to a race condition, potentially leading to local privilege escalation. It requires System execution privileges and does not need user interaction. While it does not directly impact data confidentiality or integrity, such vulnerabilities could be exploited to gain unauthorized access, which may violate compliance requirements under GDPR or HIPAA if they involve unauthorized data access or processing.

Mitigation Strategies

Apply security patches or updates from the vendor if available. Monitor official advisories for fixes. Restrict user privileges to minimize potential impact. Ensure system logs are reviewed for unusual activity.
