Executive Summary

This is an out-of-bounds read vulnerability where improper bounds checking allows reading beyond allocated memory. It affects macOS versions Golden Gate 27, Sequoia 15.8, and Tahoe 26.7. Connecting to a malicious SMB share could expose kernel memory to attackers.

Detection Guidance

This vulnerability involves an out-of-bounds read in macOS systems when connecting to a malicious SMB share. Detection requires checking macOS version compatibility with the fixed releases (Golden Gate 27, Sequoia 15.8, Tahoe 26.7). Use 'sw_vers' to check your macOS version. If your version is below the fixed release, the system is vulnerable.

Impact Analysis

An attacker could exploit this to read sensitive kernel memory by tricking you into connecting to a malicious SMB share. This may lead to information disclosure, including potentially confidential data processed by the system.

Mitigation Strategies

Update macOS to the latest fixed versions: Golden Gate 27, Sequoia 15.8, or Tahoe 26.7. Avoid connecting to untrusted SMB shares until the update is applied. Regularly check for and install security updates from Apple.
