Publication date: 2026-09-16

Last updated on: 2026-09-16

Assigner: Arista Networks, Inc.

Description

On affected platforms running Arista EOS, when multiple gRPC Network Security Interface (gNSI) transports are configured, a race condition in the gNSI Authz service may cause a policy rotation to fail silently. An authenticated user whose access was revoked by the new policy may retain unauthorized access to gRPC interfaces. This does not affect Bootz. This issue was discovered internally by Arista, and the company is not aware of any malicious exploitation of this vulnerability in customer networks.

Executive Summary

This vulnerability involves a race condition in the gNSI Authz service on Arista EOS platforms when multiple gRPC Network Security Interface transports are configured. It may cause a policy rotation to fail silently, allowing an authenticated user whose access was revoked to retain unauthorized access to gRPC interfaces.

Impact Analysis

An attacker with valid credentials could retain access to sensitive gRPC interfaces even after their permissions were revoked. This could lead to unauthorized configuration changes, data exfiltration, or other malicious activities depending on the gRPC service permissions.

Compliance Impact

This vulnerability could violate compliance requirements that mandate strict access controls and timely revocation of permissions, such as GDPR's data protection principles or HIPAA's access control safeguards. Unauthorized access retention risks non-compliance with these regulations.

Mitigation Strategies

Review gNSI Authz service configurations for race conditions during policy rotation. Ensure only one gRPC Network Security Interface transport is active at a time. Monitor access logs for unauthorized gRPC interface access attempts.
