Executive Summary

Adobe Experience Manager has a stored Cross-Site Scripting (XSS) vulnerability. A low-privileged attacker can inject malicious scripts into vulnerable form fields. When a victim visits the affected page, the malicious JavaScript executes in their browser.

Detection Guidance

Detecting this stored XSS vulnerability requires manual inspection of Adobe Experience Manager form fields. Check input fields in forms for improper input validation by submitting test payloads like <script>alert(1)</script> and observing if the script executes in the browser. Review server logs for unusual input patterns or errors related to form submissions.

Impact Analysis

This vulnerability allows attackers to execute malicious scripts in your browser when you visit a page with the vulnerable field. This could lead to theft of session cookies, account takeover, or unauthorized actions on your behalf.

Compliance Impact

This vulnerability could lead to unauthorized access to sensitive data, violating GDPR (data protection) and HIPAA (health information privacy). Organizations may face compliance breaches, legal penalties, and reputational damage if exploited.

Mitigation Strategies

Apply the latest security patches from Adobe for Experience Manager. Implement strict input validation and output encoding for all form fields. Restrict low-privileged user permissions to reduce attack surface. Monitor form submissions for suspicious activity and sanitize all user inputs before rendering them in the browser.
