Executive Summary

This is a DOM-based Cross-Site Scripting (XSS) vulnerability in Adobe Experience Manager. It allows an attacker to execute malicious JavaScript in a victim's browser by manipulating the Document Object Model (DOM). The attacker must trick the victim into visiting a specially crafted webpage.

Detection Guidance

Detection of this DOM-based XSS vulnerability typically involves inspecting web application code for improper handling of user-controlled input in the DOM. Use browser developer tools to monitor JavaScript execution and DOM modifications when interacting with web pages. Tools like OWASP ZAP or Burp Suite can help identify DOM-based XSS by analyzing client-side scripts and inputs.

Impact Analysis

An attacker could steal sensitive data like session cookies, redirect you to malicious sites, or perform actions on your behalf. Since exploitation requires user interaction, avoiding untrusted links or websites reduces risk.

Mitigation Strategies

Apply the latest security patches or updates provided by Adobe for Adobe Experience Manager. Implement input validation and output encoding for all user-controlled data. Use Content Security Policy (CSP) headers to restrict inline scripts and mitigate XSS risks. Regularly audit and review client-side JavaScript code for DOM manipulation vulnerabilities.
