Executive Summary

This is a DOM-based Cross-Site Scripting (XSS) vulnerability in Adobe Experience Manager. An attacker can manipulate the Document Object Model (DOM) to inject and execute malicious JavaScript in a victim's browser. The victim must interact with a specially crafted webpage for exploitation to occur.

Detection Guidance

Detecting DOM-based XSS vulnerabilities typically involves manual code review and browser-based testing. Look for unsanitized user inputs reflected in the DOM or JavaScript functions that handle dynamic content without proper escaping. Use browser developer tools to inspect DOM modifications and network requests for suspicious scripts. Automated tools like OWASP ZAP or Burp Suite can also help identify potential XSS vectors.

Impact Analysis

An attacker could steal sensitive information like session cookies, credentials, or personal data from the victim's browser. They might also perform actions on behalf of the victim, such as changing settings or redirecting to malicious sites. User interaction is required for exploitation.

Mitigation Strategies

Apply the latest security patches from Adobe for Adobe Experience Manager. Implement input validation and output encoding to prevent malicious JavaScript execution. Use Content Security Policy (CSP) headers to restrict inline scripts and external sources. Regularly audit and sanitize user-generated content to ensure it is safe before rendering in the DOM.
