Executive Summary

This is a DOM-based Cross-Site Scripting (XSS) vulnerability in Adobe Experience Manager. It allows an attacker to execute malicious JavaScript in a victim's browser by manipulating the DOM environment. The victim must visit a specially crafted webpage for exploitation to occur.

Detection Guidance

Detecting DOM-based XSS vulnerabilities typically involves manual code review and automated scanning tools. Inspect client-side JavaScript for unsafe DOM manipulations like innerHTML, document.write, or eval. Use browser developer tools to monitor DOM changes and network requests for suspicious payloads. Tools like OWASP ZAP or Burp Suite can help identify such issues during testing.

Impact Analysis

An attacker could steal sensitive data like session cookies, redirect you to malicious sites, or perform actions on your behalf. Since user interaction is required, the risk depends on whether you visit untrusted websites.

Mitigation Strategies

Apply the latest security patches from Adobe for Adobe Experience Manager. Implement Content Security Policy (CSP) headers to restrict inline scripts and external resource loading. Sanitize user inputs and use safe DOM manipulation methods like textContent instead of innerHTML. Educate users to avoid visiting untrusted websites.
