Executive Summary

Adobe Experience Manager has a stored Cross-Site Scripting (XSS) vulnerability. A low-privileged attacker can inject malicious scripts into vulnerable form fields. When a victim visits the affected page, the malicious JavaScript executes in their browser.

Detection Guidance

Detecting this stored XSS vulnerability requires manual inspection of Adobe Experience Manager form fields. Check input fields in AEM forms for improper input validation. Look for fields that reflect user input without proper sanitization. Test by entering harmless JavaScript payloads like <script>alert(1)</script> in form fields and observe if the script executes.

Impact Analysis

An attacker could steal session cookies, redirect you to malicious sites, or perform actions on your behalf. It may also lead to unauthorized data access or defacement of web pages you visit.

Compliance Impact

This vulnerability could lead to data breaches, violating GDPR (data protection) and HIPAA (health information privacy). Organizations may face fines or legal consequences if user data is compromised due to inadequate security measures.

Mitigation Strategies

Apply the latest security patches from Adobe immediately. Configure AEM to enforce strict input validation and output encoding for all form fields. Implement Content Security Policy (CSP) headers to mitigate XSS impact. Restrict low-privileged user permissions to reduce attack surface.
