CWE ID Description
CWE-89 The product constructs all or part of an SQL command using externally-influenced input from an upstream component, but it does not neutralize or incorrectly neutralizes special elements that could modify the intended SQL command when it is sent to a downstream component. Without sufficient removal or quoting of SQL syntax in user-controllable inputs, the generated SQL query can cause those inputs to be interpreted as SQL instead of ordinary user data.

Executive Summary

CVE-2026-76570 is an unauthenticated SQL injection flaw in the JCTables Joomla extension versions up to 1.10.31.2. It allows attackers to perform arbitrary SQL read and write operations without authentication by exploiting missing authorization checks and an insecure SQL escape function. This can lead to remote code execution (RCE) as the web user.

Detection Guidance

Check if JCTables versions up to 1.10.31.2 are installed. Look for suspicious SQL queries in web server logs or Joomla database activity. Use tools like SQLmap to test for boolean-based blind SQL injection in the front-end CRUD API endpoints.

Impact Analysis

This vulnerability can allow attackers to read sensitive data like admin password hashes, modify database contents, install malicious plugins, and execute arbitrary commands on the server. It enables full system compromise without requiring user authentication.

Compliance Impact

This vulnerability could lead to unauthorized access to sensitive data, violating GDPR and HIPAA compliance requirements. It may result in data breaches, unauthorized data exposure, and failure to maintain data integrity and confidentiality.

Mitigation Strategies

Upgrade JCTables to version 1.21.1 or later immediately. Disable the JCTables component if not in use. Review and restrict database user permissions to limit write access. Monitor for unauthorized changes to admin accounts or system plugins.
