Description

SAP NetWeaver Business Client does not perform sufficient validation when processing certain locally stored data during application startup. An attacker with low privileges on the local system could replace this data with specially crafted content. When the application is next launched, the crafted content is processed and could lead to arbitrary code execution in the context of the user. This results in a high impact on confidentiality, integrity and availability of the application.

Executive Summary

SAP NetWeaver Business Client fails to validate locally stored data properly during startup. An attacker with low system privileges could replace this data with malicious content. When the application launches, the malicious data executes, potentially allowing arbitrary code execution under the user's context.

Impact Analysis

This vulnerability could allow an attacker to execute arbitrary code on your system with the same permissions as the user running SAP NetWeaver Business Client. This may lead to data theft, system compromise, or further network infiltration depending on user privileges.

Compliance Impact

This vulnerability could lead to unauthorized access or data breaches, violating GDPR's integrity and confidentiality requirements and HIPAA's safeguards for protected health information. Compliance may be compromised if sensitive data is exposed or altered.

Mitigation Strategies

Apply the latest security patches from SAP as soon as they are available. Ensure that only trusted users have local system access. Monitor for unusual application behavior or unauthorized changes to locally stored data.
