Executive Summary

This vulnerability is a Missing Authorization issue in Kibana's Fleet feature. It allows an authenticated user with read-level Fleet agent privileges in one Kibana space to access agent metadata and diagnostic content from agents enrolled in other Kibana spaces. This happens due to insufficient access controls, enabling privilege abuse.

Detection Guidance

To detect this vulnerability, check if your Kibana instance is running versions 9.4.6 or 9.5.3. Verify if Fleet space awareness is enabled and if multiple Kibana spaces are in use. Use Kibana logs to monitor unauthorized access attempts to agent metadata or diagnostic content across spaces.

Impact Analysis

An attacker with limited access could exploit this to view sensitive agent data across different Kibana spaces. This may include diagnostic information or metadata that could be used for further attacks or data exfiltration.

Compliance Impact

This vulnerability could lead to unauthorized access to sensitive data, violating confidentiality requirements in GDPR and HIPAA. Organizations may face compliance violations, fines, or reputational damage due to potential data exposure.

Mitigation Strategies

Update Kibana to the latest version to address the missing authorization issue in the Fleet feature. Review and restrict user privileges to ensure least privilege access, particularly for Fleet agent privileges across different Kibana spaces.
