Executive Summary

This vulnerability affects the My Private Site WordPress plugin versions before 4.2.3. It allows unauthenticated users to view restricted content such as post content, comments, and post URLs from sites meant to be private behind a login. The plugin fails to enforce privacy controls on certain front-end surfaces like RSS feeds and sitemaps.

Detection Guidance

To detect this vulnerability, check if your WordPress site using the My Private Site plugin (versions before 4.2.3) exposes restricted content via RSS feeds or sitemaps. Access /feed/ and /sitemap.xml URLs to see if post content, comments, or URLs are visible without authentication.

Impact Analysis

If you use this plugin, sensitive site content may be exposed to unauthorized users. This could lead to privacy breaches, data leaks, or unintended public access to restricted information. Attackers might exploit this to gather details about your site's content without authentication.

Compliance Impact

This vulnerability could violate data protection regulations like GDPR or HIPAA by exposing private user data or sensitive content without proper access controls. Organizations may face compliance penalties if such breaches occur due to inadequate security measures.

Mitigation Strategies

Immediately update the My Private Site plugin to version 4.2.3 or later. If an update is not available, consider disabling the plugin temporarily until a patch is released. Review site access logs for unauthorized access attempts.
