Executive Summary

This is a vulnerability in Oracle WebLogic Server, specifically in the TopLink Integration component. It affects versions 12.2.1.4.0, 14.1.1.0.0, 14.1.2.0.0, and 15.1.1.0.0. An attacker with low privileges and network access via HTTP can exploit it to take over the server.

Detection Guidance

Detection of CVE-2026-83038 requires checking for vulnerable versions of Oracle WebLogic Server. Inspect installed versions using commands like 'java -jar wls.jar -version' or 'opatch lsinventory' for patch details. Monitor Oracle's security advisories for updates. Network scanning tools like Nmap may identify WebLogic instances but cannot confirm vulnerability without version checks.

Impact Analysis

An attacker could gain full control of the Oracle WebLogic Server, leading to potential data breaches, unauthorized access to sensitive information, or disruption of services. The high CVSS score indicates severe impacts on confidentiality, integrity, and availability.

Compliance Impact

This vulnerability allows takeover of Oracle WebLogic Server, which could lead to unauthorized access to sensitive data. Such breaches may violate GDPR due to loss of personal data confidentiality and HIPAA if protected health information is exposed. Compliance risks include data protection failures and potential regulatory penalties.

Mitigation Strategies

Apply the latest security patches from Oracle for affected WebLogic Server versions (12.2.1.4.0, 14.1.1.0.0, 14.1.2.0.0, 15.1.1.0.0). If patches are unavailable, restrict network access to the WebLogic Server via firewalls and disable unnecessary services. Monitor for unusual activity and consider isolating the server until mitigation is complete.
