Executive Summary

This is a vulnerability in Oracle BI Publisher, part of Oracle Analytics. It allows a low-privileged attacker with network access to exploit it via SOAP. Successful exploitation can lead to unauthorized access to critical data or complete access to all Oracle BI Publisher accessible data, as well as unauthorized data modification.

Detection Guidance

This vulnerability is specific to Oracle BI Publisher and requires network access via SOAP. Detection would involve checking for unauthorized SOAP requests or unusual access patterns to Oracle BI Publisher services. Monitor logs for suspicious activity related to Oracle BI Publisher (ports typically used by SOAP services). Ensure Oracle BI Publisher is updated to a patched version if available.

Impact Analysis

If you use Oracle BI Publisher versions 8.2.0.0.0, 12.2.1.4.0, or 26.01.0.0.0, an attacker could gain unauthorized access to sensitive data or modify it. This could lead to data breaches, loss of confidential information, or integrity issues in your systems.

Compliance Impact

This vulnerability could lead to unauthorized access or modification of sensitive data, which may violate GDPR (data protection) and HIPAA (health information privacy) requirements. Non-compliance risks fines, legal penalties, and reputational damage.

Mitigation Strategies

Apply the latest security patches from Oracle for affected versions of BI Publisher (8.2.0.0.0, 12.2.1.4.0, 26.01.0.0.0). Restrict network access to the SOAP interface and limit privileges for low-privileged users. Monitor for unauthorized access or data changes.
