Executive Summary

This is a vulnerability in Oracle Coherence, a middleware product. It allows a low-privileged attacker with network access to take over the system by exploiting weaknesses in the Core component. The attack can impact confidentiality, integrity, and availability of the system.

Detection Guidance

Detection requires checking for vulnerable versions of Oracle Coherence. Verify installed versions using commands like 'java -jar coherence.jar -version' or checking application server logs for Coherence components. Ensure network monitoring for unusual traffic patterns targeting Coherence ports (default 7574, 8088).

Impact Analysis

If you use Oracle Coherence versions 12.2.1.4.0, 14.1.1.0.0, 14.1.2.0.0, or 15.1.1.0.0, an attacker could gain full control of your system. This could lead to data breaches, unauthorized changes, or system downtime.

Compliance Impact

The vulnerability allows low privileged attackers to compromise Oracle Coherence, potentially leading to unauthorized access, data breaches, or service disruptions. This could impact compliance with GDPR (data protection), HIPAA (healthcare data), or other regulations by exposing sensitive information or disrupting critical operations.

Mitigation Strategies

Apply the latest security patches from Oracle for affected Oracle Coherence versions (12.2.1.4.0, 14.1.1.0.0, 14.1.2.0.0, 15.1.1.0.0). If patches are unavailable, consider isolating the system from untrusted networks or disabling the service until mitigation is applied.
