Executive Summary

This is a vulnerability in Oracle Coherence, a middleware product. It allows a low-privileged attacker with network access via HTTP to cause a partial denial of service (DOS) in Oracle Coherence. The impact is limited to availability, with no compromise of confidentiality or integrity.

Detection Guidance

Detection of CVE-2026-83416 requires checking for Oracle Coherence versions 12.2.1.4.0, 14.1.1.0.0, 14.1.2.0.0, or 15.1.1.0.0. Verify installed versions using Oracle tools or package managers. Monitor network traffic for HTTP requests targeting Oracle Coherence services. Check logs for unusual partial denial of service patterns.

Impact Analysis

If you use Oracle Coherence versions 12.2.1.4.0, 14.1.1.0.0, 14.1.2.0.0, or 15.1.1.0.0, an attacker could disrupt service availability, leading to partial outages of the Oracle Coherence system.

Compliance Impact

This vulnerability causes partial denial of service in Oracle Coherence, which could disrupt availability of affected systems. For GDPR, availability impacts may affect data processing operations requiring uninterrupted access. HIPAA requires safeguards for data availability, so partial DOS could impact compliance if critical healthcare systems are affected.

Mitigation Strategies

Apply the latest Oracle Coherence patches for affected versions (12.2.1.4.0, 14.1.1.0.0, 14.1.2.0.0, 15.1.1.0.0) as soon as possible. Restrict network access to Oracle Coherence via HTTP to trusted sources only. Monitor for unusual network traffic or partial denial of service attempts targeting the service.
