Executive Summary

This vulnerability affects Oracle Fusion Middleware's Helidon product, specifically the helidon-media-multipart component. It impacts versions 3.0.0 to 3.2.20. The issue allows an unauthenticated attacker to remotely exploit the system via HTTP, causing a partial denial of service (DOS) without requiring user interaction or special privileges.

Detection Guidance

Detecting this vulnerability requires checking if your Helidon version is within the affected range (3.0.0-3.2.20). Use commands like 'java -jar helidon.jar --version' or inspect dependency files (e.g., pom.xml for Maven) to verify the version. Monitor network traffic for unusual HTTP requests targeting Helidon endpoints.

Impact Analysis

If exploited, this vulnerability could disrupt the availability of the Helidon service, leading to partial outages or degraded performance. It does not allow data theft or unauthorized access but may affect service reliability for users relying on the affected versions.

Compliance Impact

This vulnerability causes partial denial of service in Oracle Helidon, which could disrupt availability of systems handling sensitive data. While not directly violating GDPR or HIPAA, such disruptions may impact compliance by impairing access to personal health or user data during outages.

Mitigation Strategies

Upgrade Helidon to a version later than 3.2.20 immediately. If upgrading is not possible, apply network-level mitigations such as restricting HTTP access to Helidon endpoints via firewalls or disabling the multipart media feature if unused. Monitor for signs of exploitation.
