Executive Summary

This is a vulnerability in Oracle Fusion Middleware's Helidon product, specifically in the WebSocket component. It affects versions 4.0.0 to 4.5.4. An unauthenticated attacker can exploit it remotely via HTTP to cause a partial denial of service (DOS) in Helidon.

Detection Guidance

Detecting this vulnerability requires checking if your Helidon version is between 4.0.0 and 4.5.4. Use commands like 'java -jar helidon.jar --version' or check application logs for Helidon startup messages to identify the version.

Impact Analysis

The vulnerability allows an attacker to disrupt the availability of Helidon services, leading to partial service outages. This could affect applications relying on Helidon for WebSocket functionality.

Compliance Impact

This vulnerability causes partial denial of service in Oracle Helidon, which could disrupt availability of services. While not directly violating GDPR or HIPAA, such disruptions may impact compliance with availability requirements under these regulations if the affected system processes personal or health data.

Mitigation Strategies

Upgrade Helidon to a version later than 4.5.4 immediately. If upgrading is not possible, restrict network access to the WebSocket component via firewall rules or disable the WebSocket feature if not required.
