Executive Summary

Substance3D Sampler has a heap-based buffer overflow flaw. This means an attacker could craft a malicious file that, when opened by a victim, triggers a buffer overflow. This could allow arbitrary code execution with the same privileges as the current user.

Impact Analysis

If you open a specially crafted file, an attacker could execute malicious code on your system. This could lead to data theft, system compromise, or further network attacks. The impact depends on your user privileges.

Compliance Impact

This vulnerability could lead to unauthorized code execution, potentially exposing sensitive data processed by Substance3D Sampler. This may impact compliance with GDPR if personal data is compromised, or HIPAA if protected health information is involved, depending on the context of use and data handled.

Mitigation Strategies

Update Adobe Substance3D Sampler to the latest version to patch the heap-based buffer overflow vulnerability. Avoid opening untrusted files or files from unknown sources to prevent exploitation requiring user interaction.
