Executive Summary

This vulnerability is an Insecure Direct Object Reference (IDOR) in the BEAR WordPress plugin before version 1.2.2. It allows authenticated users with restricted access to their own products to bypass ownership checks and retrieve sensitive data belonging to other users, such as protected downloadable file URLs and private product metadata.

Detection Guidance

To detect this vulnerability, check the installed version of the BEAR plugin. If it is below 1.2.2, the system is vulnerable. Use WordPress admin panel or run a command like 'wp plugin list' in the WordPress directory to verify the plugin version.

Impact Analysis

If you use the BEAR plugin before version 1.2.2, an attacker with restricted access could exploit this flaw to access your private product information or downloadable files, potentially leading to data leaks or unauthorized access to sensitive files.

Compliance Impact

This vulnerability could lead to unauthorized access to private data, which may violate compliance requirements under GDPR (data protection) or HIPAA (health information privacy) if sensitive product or user data is exposed.

Mitigation Strategies

Immediately update the BEAR plugin to version 1.2.2 or later. This can be done via the WordPress admin panel under 'Plugins' or by using a command like 'wp plugin update bear-bulk-editor-and-products-manager-professional-for-woocommerce'.
