Executive Summary

This vulnerability is in the Restaurant Menu and Food Ordering WordPress plugin before version 2.4.12. It allows unauthenticated attackers to forge PayPal payment notifications, tricking the system into marking orders as paid and completed without any actual payment being made.

Detection Guidance

Check the installed version of the Restaurant Menu and Food Ordering WordPress plugin. If it is below 2.4.12, the system is vulnerable. Use WordPress admin panel or run a command like 'wp plugin list' in the WordPress directory to verify the version.

Impact Analysis

Attackers could exploit this to get free food or services by making the system believe they paid. Restaurants or businesses using the vulnerable plugin may lose revenue as orders are marked as paid without real transactions.

Compliance Impact

This vulnerability could lead to unauthorized access to order data and potential data breaches, which may violate GDPR if personal data is exposed. For HIPAA, if the plugin handles protected health information, the lack of payment verification could result in unauthorized transactions and non-compliance with transaction integrity requirements.

Mitigation Strategies

Update the Restaurant Menu and Food Ordering plugin to version 2.4.12 or later immediately to patch the vulnerability. Disable the plugin temporarily if an update is not immediately available.
