Executive Summary

The SUMIT Payment Gateway for WooCommerce plugin before version 4.0.0 has a flaw where it does not verify payment notifications with the payment provider. This allows unauthenticated users to forge payment confirmations and mark pending orders as paid without completing the actual payment.

Detection Guidance

Check if the SUMIT Payment Gateway for WooCommerce plugin version is below 4.0.0. Use WordPress admin panel to inspect installed plugins or run commands like 'wp plugin list' in WP-CLI to verify versions.

Impact Analysis

This vulnerability could lead to financial losses as orders may be marked as paid without actual payment being processed. It also undermines trust in the payment system and could result in disputes or chargebacks.

Compliance Impact

This vulnerability could potentially impact compliance with GDPR and HIPAA by allowing unauthorized transactions to be marked as paid without actual payment verification. This may lead to improper financial record-keeping and potential exposure of sensitive payment data, which could violate data integrity and security requirements under these regulations.

Mitigation Strategies

Update the SUMIT Payment Gateway for WooCommerce plugin to version 4.0.0 or later immediately. Disable the plugin temporarily if an update is not possible until the fix is applied.
