Executive Summary

This vulnerability is in an ERP system's API endpoint due to weak authentication and authorization controls. An attacker can exploit it remotely without authentication by manipulating parameters to access sensitive information belonging to other users.

Detection Guidance

To detect this vulnerability, monitor API endpoints for unauthorized access attempts or unusual parameter manipulation. Check logs for requests with missing or invalid authentication tokens. Use network scanners to identify exposed API endpoints and test for improper access controls.

Impact Analysis

An attacker could steal sensitive data from other users, such as personal or financial information, leading to privacy breaches, identity theft, or financial loss. The high CVSS score indicates severe potential impact.

Compliance Impact

This vulnerability could lead to unauthorized access to personal data, violating GDPR's data protection requirements and HIPAA's safeguards for protected health information. Non-compliance may result in legal penalties and reputational damage.

Mitigation Strategies

Immediately restrict access to the vulnerable API endpoint by implementing proper authentication and authorization controls. Update the ERP system to enforce strict parameter validation and input sanitization. Apply patches or updates provided by the vendor if available.
