Executive Summary

This vulnerability is in the Unbounce Landing Pages WordPress plugin before version 1.1.5. It allows any authenticated user, even a low-privilege subscriber, to change the plugin's front-end proxy configuration without proper authorization checks. This lets an attacker redirect the proxy to a server they control, making the website serve malicious content from its own domain.

Detection Guidance

To detect this vulnerability, check if the Unbounce Landing Pages WordPress plugin version is below 1.1.5. Inspect network traffic for unauthorized proxy configuration changes or requests to external hosts from your site's origin.

Impact Analysis

An attacker could exploit this to serve phishing pages, malware, or other malicious content under your website's domain. This could trick visitors into disclosing sensitive information or infecting their devices. It also damages your site's reputation and trustworthiness.

Compliance Impact

This vulnerability could lead to data breaches by enabling attackers to serve malicious content, potentially violating GDPR (data protection) and HIPAA (health information privacy) requirements. Non-compliance may result in legal penalties, fines, and reputational damage for organizations handling sensitive data.

Mitigation Strategies

Immediately update the Unbounce Landing Pages plugin to version 1.1.5 or higher. Review user roles and permissions to ensure only authorized users can modify plugin settings. Monitor network traffic for suspicious proxy activity.
