Executive Summary

This is an OS command injection vulnerability in WatchGuard AP devices. It allows attackers with network access to execute arbitrary shell commands on the device's operating system through the internal API service.

Detection Guidance

Detecting this vulnerability requires checking WatchGuard AP device versions. Use the device's admin interface or CLI to verify if the installed version is less than 3.4.8. No specific commands are provided in the resources, but network scanning tools may identify exposed WatchGuard AP devices.

Impact Analysis

An attacker could gain full control over the affected WatchGuard AP device, potentially leading to data theft, network compromise, or disruption of services. This could expose sensitive information or allow further attacks on connected systems.

Compliance Impact

This vulnerability could lead to unauthorized access to sensitive data, violating compliance requirements such as GDPR or HIPAA. Organizations may face legal penalties, data breach notifications, and reputational damage if exploited.

Mitigation Strategies

Immediately upgrade WatchGuard AP devices to version 3.4.8 or later. Isolate affected devices from untrusted networks if upgrading is not immediately possible. Monitor for unusual activity or unauthorized command execution.
