Executive Summary

This is a missing authorization vulnerability in the wgagent management daemon's session initialization function in Fireware OS. An authenticated low-privileged user, including read-only or guest admin accounts, can crash the wgagent process and read arbitrary files accessible to the daemon by sending a specially crafted management API request.

Detection Guidance

Detecting this vulnerability requires checking Fireware OS versions against affected ranges (2026.0-2026.3.2, 2025.0-2026.2.3, 12.0-12.12.3, 12.0-12.5.21). Use system commands like 'show version' or 'system info' to verify OS version. Monitor wgagent process crashes or unusual file access patterns via logs.

Impact Analysis

An attacker could exploit this to crash the wgagent process, disrupting management services, and access sensitive files on the system that the daemon can read. This may lead to unauthorized data exposure or service disruption.

Compliance Impact

This vulnerability could lead to unauthorized access to sensitive data, potentially violating GDPR's data protection principles or HIPAA's security requirements for protected health information. Compliance may be impacted if exploited.

Mitigation Strategies

Immediately upgrade Fireware OS to patched versions (2026.3.2, 2026.2.3, 12.12.3, or 12.5.21). Restrict low-privileged user access to management APIs. Disable guest or read-only admin accounts if not required. Monitor wgagent logs for suspicious API requests.
