Executive Summary

The Hostinger Reach WordPress plugin before version 1.8.3 has a stored Cross-Site Scripting (XSS) vulnerability. This occurs because the plugin does not properly sanitize and escape a widget setting before displaying it in the editor preview. Attackers with contributor-level access or higher can inject malicious scripts that execute when a higher-privileged user views the affected content in the editor.

Detection Guidance

Check the installed version of the Hostinger Reach WordPress plugin. If it is between 1.0.6 and 1.8.2, the system is vulnerable. Use commands like 'wp plugin list' in WordPress CLI or inspect the plugin files directly.

Impact Analysis

This vulnerability allows attackers to inject malicious scripts into your WordPress site. If you have a higher-privileged user account, such as an administrator, viewing the affected content in the editor could execute these scripts, potentially leading to unauthorized actions, data theft, or further compromise of your site.

Compliance Impact

This vulnerability could lead to unauthorized access or data breaches, which may violate compliance requirements under GDPR, HIPAA, or other regulations. If user data is compromised due to this flaw, organizations could face legal penalties, reputational damage, and loss of trust.

Mitigation Strategies

Update the Hostinger Reach plugin to version 1.8.3 or later immediately. Remove or disable the plugin if updating is not possible. Restrict user roles to the minimum required permissions.
