CWE ID Description
CWE-89 The product constructs all or part of an SQL command using externally-influenced input from an upstream component, but it does not neutralize or incorrectly neutralizes special elements that could modify the intended SQL command when it is sent to a downstream component. Without sufficient removal or quoting of SQL syntax in user-controllable inputs, the generated SQL query can cause those inputs to be interpreted as SQL instead of ordinary user data.
CWE-74 The product constructs all or part of a command, data structure, or record using externally-influenced input from an upstream component, but it does not neutralize or incorrectly neutralizes special elements that could modify how it is parsed or interpreted when it is sent to a downstream component.

Executive Summary

This is an unauthenticated SQL injection vulnerability in an inventory management system. The issue occurs in the order processing functionality where the pro_name[] parameter is used without proper sanitization. The vulnerable code in includes/process.php and includes/manage.php directly concatenates user-controlled input into an SQL UPDATE statement, allowing attackers to manipulate the WHERE clause.

Detection Guidance

To detect this SQL injection vulnerability, monitor network traffic for POST requests to the inventory system's order processing endpoints. Look for unusual parameters like pro_name[] with suspicious values such as 'X' OR 1=1# or similar SQL injection payloads. Check application logs for database errors or unexpected stock modifications.

Impact Analysis

Attackers can remotely exploit this to modify inventory stock across all products by injecting malicious SQL payloads. This enables mass stock manipulation, fraudulent invoice creation, and potential further database compromise. The vulnerability allows setting all product stock values to zero or other unauthorized changes.

Compliance Impact

This SQL injection vulnerability could lead to unauthorized access, modification, or deletion of sensitive data, which may violate GDPR's data integrity and confidentiality requirements. For HIPAA, it risks exposing protected health information if inventory data includes such details. Both standards require strict access controls and audit logging, which this vulnerability undermines.

Mitigation Strategies

Immediately restrict access to the vulnerable endpoints by implementing authentication and input validation. Sanitize all user inputs, especially pro_name[], using prepared statements or parameterized queries. Temporarily disable the order processing functionality if a patch is unavailable. Monitor database changes for unauthorized modifications.
