Executive Summary

This vulnerability allows an administrator to inject shell commands into the WPA-PSK wireless password field. When the system applies the wireless configuration, these commands execute with root privileges, potentially allowing full system compromise.

Impact Analysis

An attacker with administrative access could execute arbitrary commands as root, leading to complete system takeover, data theft, or installation of malware. Even if not directly accessible, exploitation could allow lateral movement within a network.

Compliance Impact

This vulnerability could lead to unauthorized access to sensitive data, violating GDPR's data protection requirements and HIPAA's security rules. Organizations using this device may face compliance violations, fines, or legal consequences.

Mitigation Strategies

Update GeoVision GV-LPC2211 to the latest firmware version to patch the vulnerability. Avoid using WPA-PSK with shell syntax characters in the password. Restrict administrative access to the device and monitor network traffic for suspicious wireless configuration changes.
