Executive Summary

CVE-2026-88939 is an authorization bypass vulnerability in the knowns software versions up to 0.33.0. The project.set action is exempt from permission checks, allowing read-only agent sessions to bypass restrictions. Attackers can use this to repoint the server to another project directory and gain write access capabilities.

Detection Guidance

Check if the knowns software version is 0.33.0 or earlier. Inspect server logs for unauthorized project.set action invocations by read-only agent sessions. Review permission guard logs to confirm bypass attempts.

Impact Analysis

An attacker with read-only access could escalate privileges to write access, potentially modifying project data, configurations, or executing unauthorized actions. This could lead to data corruption, unauthorized access, or further system compromise depending on the project's sensitivity.

Compliance Impact

This vulnerability could violate compliance requirements that mandate strict access controls and data integrity, such as GDPR's data protection principles or HIPAA's access control safeguards. Unauthorized write access may lead to data breaches or integrity violations, triggering regulatory penalties.

Mitigation Strategies

Upgrade knowns to a version beyond 0.33.0 where the permission exemption is fixed. Temporarily restrict project.set action access for read-only sessions until patched. Monitor for unauthorized project directory repointing attempts.
