Executive Summary

This vulnerability affects the Bookit WordPress plugin before version 2.6.0.1. It allows unauthenticated users to access other customers' appointment details through an improperly restricted availability-check request. This includes free-text booking comments and contact information.

Detection Guidance

To detect this vulnerability, check if your WordPress site is running the Bookit plugin version before 2.6.0.1. You can use commands like 'wp plugin list' in the WordPress directory or inspect the plugin files for version details. Test if unauthenticated requests to availability-check endpoints return sensitive data.

Impact Analysis

Unauthenticated users can retrieve sensitive personally identifiable information (PII) such as appointment details, contact information, and free-text booking comments of other customers. This could lead to privacy breaches and misuse of personal data.

Compliance Impact

This vulnerability likely violates GDPR and HIPAA due to unauthorized access to personally identifiable information. GDPR requires protection of personal data, and HIPAA mandates safeguarding protected health information. The exposure of such data could result in legal penalties and compliance failures.

Mitigation Strategies

Immediately update the Bookit plugin to version 2.6.0.1 or later. If updating is not possible, consider disabling the plugin temporarily until an update is applied. Review server logs for suspicious requests to availability-check endpoints.
