Executive Summary

This vulnerability is a missing authorization issue in the wgagent management daemon's session initialization function. An authenticated low-privileged user, including read-only or guest admin accounts, can crash the wgagent process and read arbitrary files accessible to the daemon by sending a specially crafted management API request.

Detection Guidance

Detecting this vulnerability requires checking Fireware OS versions for affected releases (2026.3 to 2026.3.2, 2025.0 to 2026.2.3, 12.0 to 12.12.3, or 12.0 to 12.5.21). Monitor wgagent process logs for crashes or unusual API requests. Use network traffic analysis to detect suspicious management API interactions.

Impact Analysis

This vulnerability allows unauthorized users to crash the wgagent process and access sensitive files on the system. This could lead to data breaches, system instability, or unauthorized information disclosure depending on the files accessible to the daemon.

Compliance Impact

This vulnerability could lead to unauthorized access to sensitive data, potentially violating GDPR's data protection requirements and HIPAA's safeguards for protected health information. Organizations may face compliance violations, fines, or legal consequences if exploited.

Mitigation Strategies

Upgrade Fireware OS to patched versions (2026.3.2, 2026.2.3, 12.12.3, or 12.5.21) immediately. Restrict low-privileged user access to management APIs. Disable guest or read-only administrator accounts if not required. Monitor wgagent processes for crashes or unauthorized file access attempts.
