CWE ID Description
CWE-89 The product constructs all or part of an SQL command using externally-influenced input from an upstream component, but it does not neutralize or incorrectly neutralizes special elements that could modify the intended SQL command when it is sent to a downstream component. Without sufficient removal or quoting of SQL syntax in user-controllable inputs, the generated SQL query can cause those inputs to be interpreted as SQL instead of ordinary user data.

Executive Summary

This is an SQL injection vulnerability in GIS Informatics GisLab Laboratory Management System versions before 1.5. It allows attackers to execute malicious SQL commands by injecting special elements into input fields, potentially accessing or modifying database contents.

Detection Guidance

To detect SQL injection vulnerabilities like CVE-2026-9163, monitor network traffic for suspicious SQL queries, test input fields with common SQL injection payloads (e.g., ' OR 1=1 --), and use automated tools like SQLmap or OWASP ZAP to scan for vulnerabilities. Check application logs for unusual database queries or errors.

Impact Analysis

An attacker could exploit this to read, alter, or delete sensitive data in the database, such as patient records or laboratory results. This could lead to data breaches, unauthorized access, or system compromise.

Compliance Impact

This vulnerability could violate GDPR by exposing personal data or HIPAA by compromising protected health information, leading to legal penalties, fines, or reputational damage due to non-compliance with data protection requirements.

Mitigation Strategies

Immediately update GisLab Laboratory Management System to version 1.5 or later to address the SQL injection vulnerability. Ensure all systems are patched and monitor for unusual database queries or unauthorized access attempts.
