Executive Summary

This vulnerability is an unrestricted file upload flaw in WuzhiCMS versions up to 4.1.0. It exists in the member::setAvatar function via the /index.php?m=member&f=user&v=setAvatar endpoint. Attackers can exploit this by manipulating the File argument to upload malicious files remotely. The issue was reported but remains unaddressed by the project maintainers.

Impact Analysis

This flaw allows remote attackers to upload arbitrary files to the server. This could lead to remote code execution, malware distribution, or defacement of the website. Sensitive data may be exposed, and the system could be used as a pivot point for further attacks against the network.

Compliance Impact

This vulnerability could lead to unauthorized access or data breaches, violating GDPR's integrity and confidentiality requirements. For HIPAA, it risks exposing protected health information, potentially leading to compliance violations and penalties. Organizations must address this to maintain regulatory compliance.

Mitigation Strategies

Immediately update WuzhiCMS to the latest version beyond 4.1.0 if available. If no update exists, disable the Avatar Upload feature in /index.php?m=member&f=user&v=setAvatar. Monitor network traffic for unusual file uploads to this endpoint. Restrict access to the member module if not required.
