Executive Summary

Flowise versions before 3.1.4 have a validation bypass flaw in MCP server configuration. Authenticated attackers can exploit this by manipulating the cwd parameter to execute remote code. The vulnerability involves bypassing path validation using clean filenames in the args array while controlling the working directory.

Detection Guidance

Check Flowise version with 'npm list -g flowise' or 'flowise --version'. If version is below 3.1.4, the system is vulnerable. Inspect MCP server configurations for unvalidated cwd parameters in args arrays.

Impact Analysis

An attacker with authenticated access could execute arbitrary code on the server running Flowise. This could lead to data theft, system compromise, or further network infiltration depending on the server's role and permissions.

Compliance Impact

This vulnerability could lead to unauthorized access and data breaches, violating GDPR's integrity and confidentiality requirements or HIPAA's safeguards for protected health information. Organizations may face compliance penalties if exploited.

Mitigation Strategies

Upgrade Flowise to version 3.1.4 or later immediately. Remove or restrict access to MCP server configurations until patched. Monitor for suspicious activity in system logs.
