Executive Summary

This is a Linux kernel vulnerability in AppArmor where profile creation failure before policy initialization leaves list heads uninitialized. This triggers a kernel warning during cleanup when profile_free() checks detect corrupted list state.

Detection Guidance

This vulnerability is specific to the Linux kernel's AppArmor module and may not have direct network detection methods. Check kernel logs for AppArmor-related warnings or errors using: dmesg | grep -i apparmor or journalctl -k | grep -i apparmor. Monitor for profile creation failures or crashes in AppArmor components.

Impact Analysis

The vulnerability causes kernel warnings and potential system instability during AppArmor profile operations. It may lead to crashes or require system reboot when handling profile updates or replacements.

Compliance Impact

This vulnerability in the Linux kernel's AppArmor module could potentially impact compliance with security standards and regulations that require proper access control and system integrity. The issue may lead to improper profile handling during failures, which could undermine security policies and audit requirements.

Mitigation Strategies

Update your Linux kernel to the latest stable version that includes the fix for this AppArmor issue. If immediate patching is not possible, consider disabling AppArmor temporarily with sudo systemctl disable apparmor or sudo aa-complain /path/to/profile until the kernel is updated.
