Executive Summary

This vulnerability exists in the Netlink ICT HG323RW router due to insufficient authorization and input validation controls in the diagnostic script import functionality. An authenticated attacker could exploit this by uploading and executing a specially crafted script through the web management interface.

Detection Guidance

Detection involves checking for unauthorized script uploads or execution attempts in the Netlink ICT HG323RW router's diagnostic functionality. Monitor web management interface logs for unusual file uploads or command execution patterns. Inspect network traffic for outbound connections initiated by the router.

Impact Analysis

Successful exploitation could allow an attacker to execute arbitrary operating system commands with root privileges, resulting in complete compromise of the affected device.

Compliance Impact

This vulnerability allows attackers to execute arbitrary commands with root privileges on the router, potentially leading to unauthorized access to sensitive data. This could violate compliance requirements under GDPR and HIPAA by enabling data breaches or unauthorized access to protected health or personal information.

Mitigation Strategies

Disable the diagnostic script import functionality in the web management interface of the Netlink ICT HG323RW router. Ensure the router firmware is updated to the latest version provided by the vendor. Restrict access to the web management interface to trusted networks or IP addresses only.
