Executive Summary

The Broken Link Notifier WordPress plugin before version 2.0.0.1 has a flaw where it does not re-check the destination of redirects when verifying links. This allows unauthenticated attackers to bypass the plugin's filter for internal addresses and trick the server into sending requests to internal services, creating a Server-Side Request Forgery (SSRF) vulnerability.

Detection Guidance

To detect this vulnerability, check if you are running the Broken Link Notifier WordPress plugin versions between 1.3.1 and 2.0.0. Update to version 2.0.0.1 or later to mitigate the risk. No specific commands are provided in the context for detection.

Impact Analysis

This vulnerability could allow attackers to access internal services on your server or network that should not be exposed. It may lead to unauthorized data access, internal service manipulation, or further attacks against your infrastructure if internal services are compromised.

Compliance Impact

This vulnerability could violate compliance requirements by exposing internal systems or sensitive data to unauthorized access. GDPR and HIPAA both require protecting personal and health data, and an SSRF flaw could lead to breaches that result in non-compliance penalties or legal consequences.

Mitigation Strategies

Update the Broken Link Notifier plugin to version 2.0.0.1 or later to fix the vulnerability. If immediate update is not possible, disable the plugin until it can be updated.
