Executive Summary

This vulnerability in the Linux kernel involves a missing validation check in the function acpi_ns_build_normalized_path(). The issue allows a use-after-free vulnerability to occur, which could lead to memory corruption or arbitrary code execution by an attacker.

Detection Guidance

This vulnerability is specific to the Linux kernel's ACPICA component and involves a use-after-free issue in acpi_ns_build_normalized_path(). Detection requires checking kernel logs for ACPI-related errors or crashes. Commands like dmesg | grep -i acpi or journalctl -k | grep -i acpi may help identify issues. Ensure your kernel is updated to a patched version.

Impact Analysis

If exploited, this vulnerability could allow an attacker to execute arbitrary code, escalate privileges, or cause a denial of service on affected systems running vulnerable versions of the Linux kernel.

Compliance Impact

This vulnerability involves a use-after-free issue in the Linux kernel's ACPICA component, which could lead to memory corruption or crashes. Such low-level system vulnerabilities may impact compliance with standards like GDPR or HIPAA by potentially exposing sensitive data or disrupting system integrity if exploited.

Mitigation Strategies

Update the Linux kernel to the latest patched version to resolve the use-after-free vulnerability in ACPICA's acpi_ns_build_normalized_path function.
