JDBC Configuration Arbitrary Code Execution in WSO2

Vulnerability report for CVE-2024-4457, including description, CVSS score, EPSS score, affected products, exploitability, helpful resources, and attack-flow context.

Publication date: 2026-10-18

Last updated on: 2026-10-18

Assigner: WSO2 LLC

Description

The Management Console fails to properly validate input related to the configuration of JDBC user stores. This weakness allows an attacker to supply specially crafted input that can lead to the execution of arbitrary code on the affected server. Successful exploitation of this vulnerability enables an attacker to execute arbitrary code on the server with the privileges of the WSO2 product. This could lead to a full compromise of the system.

Executive Summary

This vulnerability involves improper input validation in the Management Console when configuring JDBC user stores. An attacker can provide specially crafted input that leads to arbitrary code execution on the server with the privileges of the WSO2 product.

Detection Guidance

This vulnerability involves improper input validation in WSO2 Management Console related to JDBC user stores. Detection requires checking WSO2 server configurations and logs for suspicious input patterns or unauthorized code execution attempts. Review server logs for unusual activity and verify input validation mechanisms in the Management Console settings.

Impact Analysis

Exploitation allows an attacker to execute arbitrary code on the server, potentially leading to a full system compromise. This could result in unauthorized access, data theft, or disruption of services.

Compliance Impact

This vulnerability allows arbitrary code execution on the server, which could lead to unauthorized access, data exfiltration, or manipulation of sensitive information. Such a compromise would likely violate compliance requirements under GDPR (data protection) and HIPAA (health data security) due to unauthorized access to personal or protected health information.

Mitigation Strategies

Apply the latest security patches from WSO2 to fix the input validation issue in the Management Console. Disable or restrict access to the Management Console interface if not required. Monitor network traffic for suspicious activity related to JDBC user store configurations.
