Executive Summary

The Fanvil x7a firmware version 2.6.0.1182 has a vulnerability in its management portal's diagnostic ping tool. This flaw allows unauthenticated attackers to inject commands into the system. The insecure handling of user input enables execution of arbitrary code on the underlying Android operating system.

Detection Guidance

Check if Fanvil x7a devices are running firmware version 2.6.0.1182. Inspect network traffic for suspicious ping requests to the management portal. Look for unauthorized command execution attempts in system logs.

Impact Analysis

An attacker could exploit this to gain control over the device, steal sensitive data, or use it as a foothold to launch further attacks within the network. Since the device runs on Android, the impact may extend to any connected systems or data accessible through it.

Compliance Impact

This vulnerability could lead to unauthorized access to personal or sensitive data, violating GDPR and HIPAA requirements. Organizations using affected Fanvil devices may face compliance breaches, legal penalties, and reputational damage due to potential data exposure.

Mitigation Strategies

Update Fanvil x7a firmware to a patched version. Restrict access to the management portal via network segmentation or firewall rules. Monitor for unusual activity in system logs.
