Executive Summary

The vulnerability in Fanvil x7a firmware version 2.6.0.1182 involves improper sanitization of user-supplied data in the device log component. This allows HTML injection, which can lead to the execution of malicious JavaScript code in any browser that accesses the device log.

Detection Guidance

This vulnerability involves reflected user input in the device log component of Fanvil x7a firmware version 2.6.0.1182, allowing HTML/JavaScript injection. To detect it, inspect web interface logs for unusual JavaScript code or HTML tags in log entries. Check network traffic for requests containing suspicious payloads like <script> tags or event handlers (e.g., onerror, onclick).

Impact Analysis

This vulnerability could allow attackers to inject malicious scripts into the device log, potentially leading to unauthorized actions, data theft, or session hijacking when the log is viewed in a browser.

Compliance Impact

This vulnerability could potentially violate compliance with GDPR and HIPAA due to the risk of unauthorized data access or manipulation through malicious JavaScript execution in the device log component. Unsanitized input may lead to cross-site scripting (XSS) attacks, compromising user data confidentiality and integrity.

Mitigation Strategies

Update the Fanvil x7a firmware to the latest version to ensure proper sanitization of device log data. Avoid exposing the device log component to untrusted networks or users until patched.
