Executive Summary

The Fanvil x7a firmware version 2.6.0.1182 has a vulnerability in its websocket handler where authentication restrictions are not properly enforced. This allows sessionless users to access device resources like operational logs or perform diagnostic requests without valid credentials.

Detection Guidance

The provided CVE details a lack of authentication in Fanvil x7a firmware 2.6.0.1182 websocket handling. To detect this, check for unauthenticated access to device resources like logs or diagnostics. Monitor network traffic for websocket connections to Fanvil devices and verify if sensitive data is exposed without authentication. Use tools like Wireshark to inspect websocket traffic for unusual requests.

Impact Analysis

An attacker could exploit this to view sensitive device logs or run unauthorized diagnostic commands, potentially leading to information disclosure or device manipulation. This could affect device integrity and confidentiality.

Compliance Impact

This vulnerability may violate compliance requirements that mandate strict access controls and audit logging, such as GDPR's data protection principles or HIPAA's security rules for protected health information.

Mitigation Strategies

Update Fanvil x7a firmware to the latest version that enforces authentication restrictions. If no update is available, restrict network access to the websocket handler and monitor logs for unauthorized diagnostic requests.
