Executive Summary

Wormhole.app before 2026-08-22 misconfigured the coturn TURN server, failing to restrict TCP relay peers. This allows unauthenticated attackers to access instance metadata or use the Wormhole relay's IP to source TCP connections.

Detection Guidance

Check if your Wormhole.app instance is running a version deployed before 2026-08-22 by reviewing deployment logs or version history. Inspect coturn TURN server configurations for improper TCP relay peer restrictions. Monitor network traffic for unauthorized TCP connections originating from the Wormhole relay's IP.

Impact Analysis

An attacker could exploit this to access sensitive instance metadata or launch TCP-based attacks using the relay's IP address, potentially leading to data breaches or network abuse.

Compliance Impact

This vulnerability could lead to unauthorized access to sensitive data, violating confidentiality requirements in GDPR and HIPAA, potentially resulting in legal penalties and loss of compliance certifications.

Mitigation Strategies

Update Wormhole.app to a version released on or after 2026-08-22. Configure the coturn TURN server to enforce strict TCP relay peer restrictions. Restrict outbound TCP connections from the Wormhole relay's IP to prevent metadata access or spoofing.
