Description

Server-Side Request Forgery (SSRF) reported in the ticket sales chart PDF export functionality of Wegow. According to the report, an authenticated user with a promoter account can manipulate the <svg> parameter of the POST request generated by selecting Download PDF. The content is processed by the export.highcharts.com service, which sends HTTP requests to attacker-controlled external resources and embeds their responses in the generated PDF. The reported behavior allows the export service to be used as an intermediary for these requests.

Executive Summary

This is a Server-Side Request Forgery (SSRF) vulnerability in Wegow's ticket sales chart PDF export feature. An authenticated promoter account user can manipulate the <svg> parameter in a POST request during PDF download. This causes the export.highcharts.com service to send HTTP requests to attacker-controlled external resources, which are then embedded in the generated PDF.

Detection Guidance

Monitor network traffic for unexpected outbound HTTP requests originating from the export.highcharts.com service. Check server logs for POST requests to /export with manipulated <svg> parameters. Use tools like tcpdump or Wireshark to inspect traffic from the Wegow application to external domains.

Impact Analysis

An attacker could exploit this to make the server send requests to internal or external systems, potentially accessing sensitive data or services. The impact includes unauthorized data exposure, internal network reconnaissance, or further attacks leveraging the server's network access.

Compliance Impact

This SSRF vulnerability could lead to unauthorized data access or exfiltration, violating GDPR's data protection principles or HIPAA's safeguards for protected health information. It may result in non-compliance due to potential breaches of confidentiality and integrity requirements.

Mitigation Strategies

Disable PDF export functionality in Wegow until a patch is available. Restrict outbound HTTP requests from the export.highcharts.com service to trusted domains only. Implement network-level controls to block requests to external resources not whitelisted.
