Description

The Bit integrations – Form Integration, Webhook, Spreadsheets, CRM, LMS & Email Automation plugin for WordPress is vulnerable to Stored Cross-Site Scripting via the 'field mapped to notification_content (attacker-chosen key, e.g. payload_text)' parameter in all versions up to, and including, 2.10.6 due to insufficient input sanitization and output escaping. This makes it possible for unauthenticated attackers to inject arbitrary web scripts in pages that will execute whenever a user accesses an injected page. Exploitation requires a site administrator to have preconfigured a Bit Integrations flow that binds the public Bit Assist webhook to a BuddyBoss "Send Notification" action with a form field mapped to notification_content, and the attacker to know the flow's UUID callback URL.

Executive Summary

This vulnerability is a Stored Cross-Site Scripting (XSS) flaw in the Bit integrations plugin for WordPress. It allows unauthenticated attackers to inject malicious scripts into web pages via the 'field mapped to notification_content' parameter due to insufficient input sanitization and output escaping. The scripts execute when users access the infected pages.

Detection Guidance

This vulnerability requires checking WordPress sites using the Bit integrations plugin up to version 2.10.6. Inspect plugin versions and review configured flows for the specific attack vector involving BuddyBoss notifications and Bit Assist webhooks.

Impact Analysis

An attacker could steal user sessions, redirect users to malicious sites, or perform actions on their behalf. If a site administrator has configured a specific Bit Integrations flow, an attacker knowing the flow's UUID callback URL could exploit this to inject scripts that affect visitors.

Compliance Impact

This vulnerability could lead to unauthorized data access or modification, violating GDPR's data protection principles or HIPAA's security rules. If exploited, it may result in data breaches, non-compliance penalties, or loss of user trust.

Mitigation Strategies

Update the Bit integrations plugin to the latest version beyond 2.10.6 immediately. Review and remove any preconfigured flows binding Bit Assist webhooks to BuddyBoss notifications with form fields mapped to notification_content.
