Description

A vulnerability has been identified in APOGEE MBC (PPC) (BACnet) (All versions), APOGEE MBC (PPC) (P2 Ethernet) (All versions), APOGEE MEC (PPC) (BACnet) (All versions), APOGEE MEC (PPC) (P2 Ethernet) (All versions), APOGEE PXC Compact (BACnet) (All versions < V3.5.7), APOGEE PXC Compact (P2 Ethernet) (All versions < V2.8.21), APOGEE PXC Modular (BACnet) (All versions < V3.5.7), APOGEE PXC Modular (P2 Ethernet) (All versions < V2.8.21), TALON TC Compact (BACnet) (All versions < V3.5.7), TALON TC Modular (BACnet) (All versions < V3.5.7). The affected product web service does not properly validate the length of user-controllable input. This could allow an unauthenticated remote attacker to read portions of device memory or to cause a denial-of-service condition.

Executive Summary

This vulnerability affects multiple Siemens building automation products. It involves improper input validation in the web service, allowing unauthenticated remote attackers to read device memory or cause denial-of-service conditions.

Detection Guidance

Detecting this vulnerability requires checking for affected Siemens devices with exposed web services. Use network scanning tools like Nmap to identify devices running web services on standard ports (e.g., 80, 443, 8080). Example command: nmap -p 80,443,8080 --open <target_IP>. Inspect device banners or service versions for matches with affected products listed in the CVE.

Impact Analysis

An attacker could exploit this to access sensitive device memory or crash systems, potentially disrupting building operations. This may lead to unauthorized data exposure or operational downtime in affected environments.

Compliance Impact

This vulnerability could potentially impact compliance with GDPR and HIPAA by exposing sensitive device memory or causing denial-of-service conditions. Unauthorized access to device memory may lead to data breaches, violating confidentiality requirements under these regulations. The lack of proper input validation also undermines security controls mandated by GDPR and HIPAA for protecting personal and health information.

Mitigation Strategies

Disable the FTP/Web service on affected devices as a mitigation measure. For products like APOGEE PXC Compact and Modular, apply available updates to address the vulnerability.
